Walking with Compassion – A Day with Dementia SG

Who says Corporate Social Responsibility can’t be enjoyable? At CYS Global Remit, our commitment to inclusion and inspiration extends beyond our workplace into the heart of our community. This month, we proudly partnered with Dementia Singapore for an impactful CSR initiative aimed at raising awareness, fostering empathy, and supporting individuals living with dementia along with their caregivers.

The initiative kicked off with an in-office awareness session delivered by Dementia SG. We were honoured to host not only the dedicated organizers but also a dementia patient alongside their caregiver, who shared deeply personal stories and experiences. Through their narratives, we gained insight into the reality that dementia can affect individuals as young as their 40s, and while incurable, it demands greater understanding and societal support. 


For many of us, it was a humbling and enlightening experience. We learned that memory loss is just one aspect of dementia and that emotional resilience, care, and patience from the community can significantly enhance the lives of those affected. 

Motivated by the session, we sought to engage more directly with the community. We organized a special day out at Gardens by the Bay for a group of dementia patients and their caregivers. CYS sponsored the entry tickets and lunch as a gesture of appreciation and encouragement. 

The visit's highlight was the Cloud Forest, captivatingly transformed with a Jurassic World theme. Life-sized dinosaurs roared and moved with striking realism, sparking excitement and wonder among our guests. Meanwhile, the Flower Dome’s vibrant floral displays offered a peaceful contrast, prompting smiles and engaging conversations throughout our walk. 


The joy was palpable. Both patients and caregivers embraced the experience, snapping photos, laughing at the animated dinosaurs, and sharing quiet moments of reflection amidst the greenery. It was a day that underscored the therapeutic power of nature, companionship, and laughter. 


After the garden tour, we gathered for a warm and hearty lunch at Hopscotch. Before dining, our CEO delivered a heartfelt speech of gratitude to Dementia SG and affirmed CYS’s dedication to building compassionate communities. 


We enjoyed creamy risotto and savoury pasta, fostering warm conversations and new friendships across the tables. For our team, it wasn't just an act of giving—it was a profound reminder of our shared humanity. 


This initiative embodies CYS Global Remit’s ongoing dedication to socially responsible causes, and we eagerly anticipate continuing our partnership with Dementia SG and other community organizations. In a world that often moves too fast, let us all remember to pause, give back, and walk with compassion.
